Materials: 25cm circumference mari, wrapped in red. Pearl Cotton #5, red and white. The closer the reds of the mari wrap and the pearl cotton match, the better.

Pin mark a Simple 24 division. You can add marking lines if you wish to. Place keeper pins where the marking lines cross (or would cross) the equator; you also need the north and south pole pins (at least until you have started the wrapping).
When you put keeper pins in, use the same color for each set except for one set.  On that one use two colors, so you can remember if you are weaving on the “front” or “back” of the mari.  When the two colored pins are on the right you are weaving the front.  You will use the following patterns on both front and back.

Orient yourself to the design as follows: The wrap bundles are on the equator.  The N/S poles are the centers of the heart. The North Pole is where the first red wrap goes to the right through the white wrap.  When you read the directions for the red wraps all of the first section goes to the right of the pole and the second section of wraps goes to the left of the pole.

With white,wrap 47 rounds.
Red:
Lay first 14 red wraps to right of pole in the following pattern:
Under 9, over 29, under 9
