One of the discussion group gals shared this with us.... starting her son off early!
Riley was 4
years old when he made the temari in the picture (he turned 5 in March
2001). He loves to do all kinds of craft stuff, and couldn't wait
to try temari! He's still learning to wrap his own balls-I wouldn't
have any time to do my own if I had to wrap all of his too! He has
more of a "freestyle" stitching technique than marking a pattern.
I have bags full of floss, so he goes through my bag, picks any color that
strikes his fancy, and just starts stitching! Each one is very different
than all the others. Amy M.

These photos show Riley working on his first Temari - and the results. While his results may be a bit more abstract than what we think of, each Temari is always unique and Riley is well on his way! Of course young children need to be supervised with items such as needles and scissors, but that does not preclude encouraging and initiating them to the craft.
