Temari in Education/Sharing with Kids

Shared stories from web readers of their happenings

This page (and more as needed) is dedicated to sharing ideas and thoughts on using Temari in education and sharing the technique with young folks. Temari is loaded with opportunites to teach basic and advanced math and geometry, color theory, 3 dimensional art, design concepts, and for exploring a culture and traditions of another country. It can also teach attention to detail, accuracy and patience, not to mention just be a fun craft.  I invite you to share your ideas and experiences of using Temari with youth....  and hope that this might become a resource for those who can and will use it as a teaching tool.

While we have people all over sharing their skills with youth in various settings as described below, Blair Heald is a TalkTemari list member and great temari maker - and she is also a very wonderful certified gifted education teacher in Fairhope, Alabama. Blair has been the recipient of several teaching awards including a Fullbright Memorial Scholarship which gave her a three-week immersion trip to Japan to learn Japanese culture. She has been integrating temari and temari related techniuqes into her classroom for several years now, sharing with me the results and I have finally decided that Blair and her kids deserve their own pages. Not only do they deserve to show off their accomplishments but Blair's study plan and the kids' results will also serve as an inspiration and benchmark to show that you can indeed start them out young. Temari also offers many integration opportunities to correlate instruction in math, physics, and engineering as well as culture, history, geography and social concepts. So - meet Blair and the kids of Daphne Intermediate and share in their plans and accomplishments:
