- Well, it's finally come to this: Due to the abuse of spamming and
scamming, intented for honorable people to connect and find others in
their area to help learn temari, I've had to remove the names and
emails listing from public view on Temarkai. Unfortunately many
of us that are part of the list have, over the last few months (and
continuing with increasing frequency) have been "asked" to "tutor" some
"Sheik's son" or some other equally rediculous scenario (actually some
of the notes would be downright laughable if it wasn't so sad) - one of
several abuse scams that have been generated. While I regret
having to give in to these kinds of people that attempt to ruin the
internet experience for everyone, I would regret even more someone
being caught up in the sams or worse. As it is, apparently sometimes
these notes also are carrying viruses embedded in the emails as well;
even if you don't fall for the scam, if the email is opened you can
also be hit with computer damage.
First of all - please, please stay up
to date with protecting your indentity and your computer - see the
information contained on the
Internet
Safety Page that is offered on Temarikai.com (many private
webmasters have unofficially agreed to ban together to try to keep
their readers informed on internet safety and remind them to be using
precautions and good surfing habits, simply as public service).
Secondly - since listing names and
emails as we have been doing for years on Temarikai.com for good
purposes has become victim to the scamming and spamming abuses of
others, we need to come up with a safer and more protected method. I
very much want continue offering the potential for teachers, crafters
and would-be crafters from connecting with each other, so the lists
will be maintained offline.
Teachers: If you were on
the lists as of today (10/1/06) you are still there, and I will place
you in touch with someone seeking in-person temari help in your area.
If you would like to join the list, drop me an email and I'll add you
in. Rest assured that the "matching" is in your control - when I
receive a request, YOU (the teacher) will be contacted by me, with the
email and name of the person seeking assistance. You can choose to
reply to them on your own or not, no questions asked or explanations
needed after you get the note from me. YOUR name and email will NOT be
given to the person asking. I very much would like to continue
to be able to allow us all to foster helping each other out, but at the
same time eliminate the obvious abuses that have been taking over. To
be added to the database
email
me with your name, city, state.
To those wishing to find a
temari teacher: -
drop
me a note with your name, address and phone number and I will put
you in touch with someone in your area, if there is one.
That person will get in touch with you by email if they are
interested. This service is offered as an informal database of
folks interested in teaching
Temari (teaching is used loosley, as there are folks here that don't
feel they are "teachers" but are happy to help beginners get going) in
their locales. In the tradition of Temari we are all students, but then
again that does not say that students can't help other students.
Please
note that this service is for contact purposes only - it is up to each
individual as to whether they are interested in doing private lessons,
small groups or larger classes, and if there is a charge or not.
Individual teachers set their own terms of rates and payment if
there is a tuition charge. This is offered in good faith, and in any
and all cases, I only offer the opportinity to connect, and accept no
responsibilty thereafter. It is up to each individual to manage
themselves and protect themselves.
