TemariKai Screensaver Version 3/2006
Call for Photos (call open through May 31, 2006)
It's hard to believe that the
last TemariKai Screensaver was produced in October of 2003. By popular
request, we'll execute another version, due for completion
mid-summer 2006. As always, this is an open call open call for
photos to
be
included in Version 3. Unlike the TemariKai
Photo Calendar, the TemariKai
Screensaver gives a lot more people (like, almost everyone) the chance
to be a part of the project, since the photos do not need to be of as
"perfect quality" as they do for the calendar due to the printing
constraints
of the calendar.
Here's how it works: You may submit
up to five photos per person. As long as the photos are in focus and
usable, everyone submitting will have at least one photo included in
the screensaver. The Screensaver will be available by digital download
via PayLoadz, as well as on CD via Cafe Press for a nominal charge
(purchases help to underwrite the costs of running Temarikai.com). If
you participate and are included in the final version, as a thank-you
token you will be entitled to a free copy by digital delivery (if you
cannot accept digital delivery, we'll arrange an at-cost copy on CD for
you). We'll hope to have it ready by the end of March, 2006. And, as in
the TemariKai Calendars, a portion of net proceeds will be directed to
the Sarah's Book Project.
Please read and use these guidelines for photos to be submitted:
- Photos should spotlight and showcase the temari; not be "busy"
with other objects in the photo, distracting backgrounds, etc.
- Please concentrate on the actual temari, and keep digitally
enhanced/generated effects to a minimum (overly enhanced images may not
be included at production discretion)
- Be sure to pay attention to the basics of the photo - that it is
in focus, the temari is well-centered in the photo as possible, etc.
- Remember to use closeup or macro functions if you can, to be sure
that at least 50 percent of the photo area is the temari (it's kind of
hard to
zero in on the temari when it's about half an inch in the middle
of the photo :>) )
- Photos should be of at least 200 pixels in resolution (check your
camera or scanner settings).
- Remember to take regular size and quality photos - not "email"
versions or other special sizing (again, check your camera settings).
- Don't crop or similarly edit the photos - it's better if I do
that on this end when the photos are prepared for the project.
- Photos must be submitted in digital format (.jpg files) either by
digital camera or scanning regular photographic prints. If you do not
have access to either method, email me for help; I'll be glad to
arrange scanning for you. Photos will be returned to you if you provide
a return, self-addressed and stamped envelope/mailer.
- The call for photos will remain open through May 31, 2006
To submit photos, PLEASE NAME THE
FILES WITH YOUR INFO AND NUMBER 1 through 5 (depending on how many your
are submitting). For example, if I were submitting a file I would name
it ginnythompson01.jpg
which means it's from me and it's the first file I'm submitting.
Attach the file(s) to an email to
me that Includes your name, email address and city/state. DO NOT embed
the images in the email - this makes it very difficult to use and
distorts the image parameters. You may send them to me using this
link: TemariKai
Screensaver Submission which will set up an email
message from you to me, with my address filled in and the subject line
set up as TK Screensaver. (If for some reason you don't use the link,
email your submission to gthompson@temarikai.com and indicate in the
subject line TK Screensaver). If you need help to scan regular
photographic prints, email me at
gthompson@temarikai and indicate TK Screensaver Scan in the subject
line.
Please, please remember folks, to properly
name the jpg files before you submit them - we routinely get several
hundred files submitted (and there are even more people now) - I can't
tell you how much time it takes if I have to rename the files so I can
tell whose is whose. There is no guarantee that if you do not follow
this procedure that your photos will be placed into consideration - it
just gets to be mind boggling if things are not labeled accurately when
you send them in.
As much as possible, every person
submitting will have at least one photo used in the screensaver.
Exceptions may include but are not limited to photos that are too badly
out of focus or composed so as to make them unusable. Unlike the
Calendar call, there is a lot more leeway here since the images need
not be enlarged for high-quality printing and makes it something that
virtually everyone can be a part of if they wish to. Submitting photos
for use in
the TemariKai Screensaver Version 3/2006 indicates that you understand
that accepted photos will be used in this project in the manner
described and agree to this use. Thanks for your support and
enthusiasm in keeping this a continuing project over the years!
