Tania had this ball offered for sale on eBay, and it was so popular with Temari lovers that she interpreted the pattern for us.... it can be found on page 6 & 52 of the Japanese book # ISBN4-8377-0391-7
Best fits a larger ball (pictured on a four inch)
1. First do a simple 10 with OBI.
2. Divide the top and bottom halves into fourths and mark each line. Only three additional points on each half. (The Obi is already marked)
3. Stitch the extra six circles with the same mark thread.
4. Pick six colors to do the rainbow with and one main color to work the vertical rows with.
5. With your first rainbow color, stitch one row above and one row below each of the marked circles stitching at each division line.
Two rows per line a total of 14 rows of color #1.
6. Now with the vertical color wrap one row on each side of the 10 division lines.
7. Repeat step 5 with next rainbow color. Stitch as close to the first color as possible.
8. Repeat step 6.
9. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you have finished with your six colors.
10. Now, take a final defining color and stitch the same as the rainbow colors, but add two vertical lines at each division to form a square. These stitches will pull all of your colors together.
11. You’re finished!

If you work this design on a smaller ball just reduce the number of divisions and horizontal lines. This pattern will work with any number odd or even.
