Inspiration: This pattern is an interpretation of one found in ISBN 483770395x on page 8.

Design threads: The thread used was Perle cotton #5. The colour of the temari ball is green and the pattern colours are light and dark pink, burgundy and white. The wrapped bands are yellow and peach.

Marking and preparation: This pattern uses a C8 division, on a 25cm ball; the marking thread used was single white thread.

Stitching the design: This is a 3 layer pattern using both wrapped bands and kiku stitch. The diagram on the left shows each starting row as the dark colour and the last row of a layer as the paler colour.
1. The first layer is a wrapped band that creates offset squares, as shown in the diagram in orange. Wrap 3 rows of yellow, using the first round as the centre line with one row on either side, and then add 2 rows of peach thread on each side to complete the band.
2. The second layer and third layers are contained within each of the original 6 squares.

3. Start the second layer as close to the center of a square as possible, this layer follows the diagonal lines using the outside of the wrapped bands as the first anchor points, this is shown in the diagram by the dark pink line. This pattern extends along the 2,4,6,8, lines. The first two rows of this layer are burgundy, then 3 rows of light pink and one row of dark pink. The points of the pattern should just reach the corner of the square, as shown by the light pink line in the diagram.

4. The third layer starts as close to the center as possible on the alternate lines and goes 1/2 way from the centre point to the edge of the vertical line. This layer extends along the 1,3,5,7 lines. This layer is shown by the green lines in the diagram. This pattern has 3 rows of white and 3 rows of burgundy thread. The points should just meet the corners created by the wrapped bands.
