"Santa
is Watching...."
Sandy was inspired by Carolyn V's pattern Temari99CV01 to "morph" things into a Santa variation, and Sandy shares it with everyone - Variation on Temari Pattern 99CV01 (Santa is watching…) Follow the Temarikai pattern 99CV01 for the ball’s setup and additional guidelines. Add a triangle setup next to the space that will be used to form the head (see diagram.) |

Starting at the intersection of
the guidelines for the face region, work 3 - 5 rounds in red or dark
pink to form Santa’s nose, then switch to a flesh tone to complete the
face square. Switch to red. Fill both squares that will form Santa’s suit from the center to the outer margin, then move to the triangle that forms the hat and fill that with red in the same manner. Take a fat, sharp needle and thread it with approximately 10 inches of chenille yarn. With the chenille yarn, make a small, very loose stitch at the tip of the hat’s triangle to form the pom-pom, outline the face, make a horizontal line across the face, then make a vertical line between the two red squares. The fat, sharp needle seems to make it a little easier to pass the chenille through the wrap threads, but due to the gauge of the yarn it may still be very difficult to pull through. The belt is worked in black thread, as several long stitches over the body squares and the chenille thread between these squares. Using a doubled blue thread, make a French knot for each eye. The mouth is made of a French knot in single thread plus two short stitches for the corners of the mouth. |
