Red
and White Triangles
This pattern comes from Cosmo 5,
pg 10 (photo) page 54(text). Lynne shares it, and this also was a
pattern writeup she used as part of her JTA application package.
This example uses a 28cm circumference mari. Wrap and mark as a C10. BE SURE to keep the north and south pole pins - or replace and maintain the north and south pole orientation. Red and white pearl cotton were used. |

Using the North and South poles
as orientation points, use the triangles drawn in the diagram to locate
these shapes on the ball. There will be five triangles radiating out
from the north pole and five from the south - but they will be off set
from each other as shown in the diagram. You can see how the off-set
shows in the example photo. Starting at the north pole, stitch two rows of red around each triangle. Turn the ball over and stitch two rows of red around each triangle from the south pole. Turn back to the north pole and stitch 2 rows of white on each triangle; flip over and do 2 rows of white on each south pole triangle. Return to the north pole and work 2 rows of red, then 2 rows of red on the south pole triangles; repeat this alternating sequence until you have developed the pattern as much as you want to. Work a finish round of one row of dark thread, or metallic, and then a last round of white. The total number of rows will depend on the size of the mari. |
