Chicken Challenge (long story from TalkTemari....)

Karin offers this design after accepting a challenge from a TalkTemari member to stitch temari that reflected some fancy chickens.

It uses a 34cm mari wrapped in black with a hint of gold; use fine gold thread for a Simple 16 division, with equator.

Stitching threads: DMC perle cotton #5: Red, black and white.

The red centre: Stitch two rounds round the centre, then one round of Chidori Kagari (zig-zag stitch) with the petals stretching about 0.5 cm.

The black and white braided kiku:  Use the same marking threads as for the red centre. When stitching a braided kiku always start stitching at the end of the petal, not up by the pole.

The first four rounds: (black, white, black, black) Stitch a normal kiku with the petals about 1 cm long on the first round.

Round 5 (white). When you take the thread round the marking thread, don’t include all the previous threads, just the last black one.
