Fall Basket

Glenna shares this interpretation based on Temari for 12 Months, Vol. 1, page 10 upper right (Fall Basket on left, original color on right)

Materials: 3” Styrofoam ball, yellow thread wrap, #5 Perle Cotton (Med. Olive Green, Maroon, Yellow, Coral, Brown, Peach, Variegated Brown)

Materials:

1.  Wrap mari with yellow thread.  Any color would do because it does not show very much.

2.  Measure and divide mari into 12 Simple Divisions.  Stitch mark lines with Medium Olive Green.  Pin makr the obi.  Place additional pins on odd mark lines 1 cm out from each pole on odd mark lines.

3.  With Color 1work with doubled thread in needle.  I used 1 Brown thread and 1 Variegated Brown thread for Color 1.  Bring thread up below and to the left of pin #1.  I made this a Red pin so it would stand out.

With eye of the needle weave over odd/under even mark lines for 2 complete circles for a total of 4 threads.  Don’t pull threads too tight.  Bury the tail.  Push all 4 threads up close to the 1 cm pins.  They will kind of bunch up instead of laying flat.

Repeat Color 1 circle at South Pole.

4.  With Color 2 (Maroon) doubled thread weave 2 circles over even/under odd mark lines.  Bury the tail.  Push all 4 threads up close to Color 1 rounds.  Repeat at South Pole.

5.  Continue weaving and pushing, one color at a time, at each pole.

My color sequence was Brown/Variegated Brown, Maroon,  Yellow, Coral, Peach.  Keep repeating the same color sequence until you reach the obi.

6 The original showed a wrapped band at the obi using one of the colors in the woven bands.  It was secured with metallic herringbone diamonds.

7.  I worked the bands until the was room for only one more band at the obi, which was woven in the next color in the sequence.
