Kiku Sunflower

Glenna has been inspired by photos found on this Japanese website (Kyoto Gallery)

Materials:  4” Styrofoam ball, thread wrap, #5 Perle Cotton in Yellow, Medium and Dark Green, Dark Brown

1.  Wrap mari in your choice of color.  Measure and mark for Complex 8 divisions. After the C8 division add additional mark lines to make 16 equal divisions at each of the six centers on the mari.

2.  At all 6-line intersections stitch triangles in two colors of Green.  You can work equal numbers of rounds in each color.

3.  At all 8-line Intersections stitch Yellow Kiku stitches.  Leave an open circle at the Pole 1/4-1/2” on either side of pin.  You can overlap or interweave the rounds.  Rounds can also overlap the Green triangles.

4.  Work a Brown spider web center.

Variations:

*  Work each of the 6 sunflowers in a different color.

*  Work sunflowers in variegated colors.

*  Add bee or butterfly button to flower
