Temari Pattern 99GK04
Advanced Beginner Pattern contributed by Glenna Kipp

Glenna likes to experiment through different themes of temari and recently did a series of temari in a study of black and white. She shares a number of her interpreted patterns with us.

White Hexagons

Materials:  3” Styrofoam ball, 300 yards black sewing thread, #5 Black Pearl Cotton, Black and White rayon floss, Gold metallic braid, needle (3” or longer with large eye), pins

1.  Wrap mari in black sewing thread.  With paper tape measure and divide mari for 8 CD.  Stitch divisions with Black Pearl Cotton.

2.  At each 6-line intersection work Herringbone stitches in White and Black rayon floss to form a hexagon.  Stitch 10 rounds in White.  Groom threads close together for a satiny finish.

3.  With Black rayon floss work 2 straight stitches over 3 alternate mark lines and over the 10 rounds of White.  It should look like a straight sided Peace Symbol.

4,  Complete the hexagon with the following rounds:

    1 Black
    2 White
    1 Black
    7 White
    1 metallic

5.  Repeat this hexagon pattern on all 6 line intersections.  If mark lines look bad, remove them.
