Kitty or Bunny Temari

Carolyn Volk got going on kitties (or bunnies, take your pick) - and came up with this pattern interpretation from
"Temari", one of a series of Japanese books reviewing various toys. (Isbn4-89423-385-1,  page 15)

Prepare a 3” ball, mark for a C8

Leave the North and South pole pins in place after marking.  Identify a triangle down from the North pole and relocate that pin to the intersection of the 6 threads in that triangle. Mark each of the 3 lines outlining the triangle, with 2 pins on each line, in the center of sections. (see photo).

Next locate the triangle that starts at the point between the original North pole and South pole, but make sure the points of these two triangles meet. (see photo). This is where the body will go.

In that triangle add a marking thread so that each of the 3 sections has 4 threads in them.(see photo) Stitch around the 4 threads in each section until completely covered. You will see the head and body take shape. The head will be toward the relocated North pole pin. There will be 3 bodies around the ball at each of the points of the triangle with the North pole pin in it.

Kitty ears are located at the side of each head about in the middle of the head. Start with tiny stitches and stitch free hand a tiny triangle for each ear. Use pink in the very middle and the  color to match the body for the outer ear. At the point where the bodies meet stitch a spindle between the bodies for a tail.
If  you are making bunnies stitch spindles on the three sides of the triangle around the North pole pin. You will notice that the 3 ears will look like two for each of the 3 bunny heads around the ball. To make the face, stitch a nose and whiskers. Use beads for eyes.  /fasten a tiny ribbon at the neck for the Kitty and at the top of the head for the Bunny.
