This Temari was inspired by Neo which appears on page 71 in Temari Traditions by Diana Vandervoort. Instead of using metallic marking thread as we usually do when working on Temari, the marking thread should match the color used to stitch the triangles; it becomes part of the design. Materials: 25 cm base wrapped with bright pink thread DMC pearl cotton colors: 814 and ecru 1. Divide the base into a standard C8 division. Mark the division lines with pearl cotton 814 and tack where 8 threads intersect using matching pearl cotton. |

2. Eight triangles will be formed
around the ball. Measure from a corner of the triangle to the
intersection of the marking threads in the middle of the
triangle. Place a pin on the marking line 2/3 of the distance
from the corner of the triangle to the intersection. Repeat in
the other 2 corners of the triangle. Mark all the triangles in
this way. |

3. To make the pattern you will
alternate between stitching around all the triangles and then stitching
around all of the squares. Begin by stitching 4 rows around the
outside of the pins to form a triangle using pearl cotton 814.
Stitch each row next to the previous row working away from the center
of the triangle. 4. Stitch 4 rows of 814 around the remaining seven triangles. Remove the pins. |

5. Squares are formed by stitching
inside the triangles. Begin stitching the squares by connecting
the corners of four triangles. Stitch inside the corner as close
to the corner as possible. Stitch 4 rows using ecru around the
square. Stitch each row next to the previous row working toward
the center of the triangle. 6. Stitch 4 rows of ecru around the remaining 5 squares. |
| 7. Stitch 4 rows
of 814 around each triangle. 8. Stitch 4 rows of ecru around the squares. 9. Stitch 4 rows of 814 around the triangles. 10. Stitch 6 rows of ecru around the squares. 11. Stitch 4 rows of 814 around the triangles. 12. Finish by stitching 2 rows of ecru around the triangles. |
