Indigo Wrap

Carol Canright created this temari for the March 2005 GITS Round on TT and it was a popular request for her to share the pattern. This is Carol's interpretation from Cosmo #2, ISBN 4-8377-0280-5; Picture on page 21, top photo, left. Instructions pg 54, bottom, with diagram.

This uses a mari with a circumference of 27 cm marked in a C-10 (use cheapie marking thread, will be removed later) and Pearl Cotton #5.

The pattern emerges by doing two sets of weaves - one forming pentagons (wide bands in photo) and one forming stars (narrow bands in photo).

Pentagon Weave (orange lines in diagram at left)

1.  First round of bands:  Do 2 rounds on each side of marking thread.  Rounds go though the middle of adjacent sides of pentagons.  Leave in pins at poles as references.  Working from left to right above a pole pin, the left is on the bottom, the right is on the top.

2.  2nd round of bands.  Do 2 rounds on each side of previous wrap.  Start new weave pattern on top of step 1 rounds.

Star Weave (purple lines in diagram)

3.  Weaves over and under previous bands.  Work through the middle of the pentagons you just  completed.  Working from left to right above a pole pin, go under pentagon weave, over the first star weave, under the second star weave, over the pentagon weave.  Do 3 rounds.

4.  Remove marking thread.
