This Temari is worked off of a C8 division, and is a good way to begin working the more detailed "layered" patterns. This pattern identifies the central square in each division face as well as the diamond that is formed where they overlap. This ball as show is worked with three rounds of navy, three of dark rose, three of medium rose and two of navy. The wrap is periwinkle/violet and is marked in very fine gold. |

Prepare and mark a C8 ball. Locate the six square faces formed on the ball. Now, where two of these squares overlap you will locate points A-D that form diamonds. Four of these diamonds will be located around each of the north and south poles and will point more up and down. Four more will be located around the obi and will point more left and right. Stitch one round in each, locating the starting distances to be 1/2 the length between the center of the square to a north or south pole. For the next round, locate the center of each of the six squares and stitch a square using the diamond points as the square points. Overlap the stitches just into the diamonds. All of these rounds - diamonds and squares, complete one cycle. Repeat the cycle until the edges begin to abut - the actual number will
depend on the size of the mari. This particular effect was achieved using
several cycles of one color and then changing to another. Many different
outcomes cam be arrived at by modifying the color selections for each section
and cycle.
