This ball is worked on a standard C10 division. It is unusual in that it is symmetrically asymmetrical - you do not see parts of all motifs when viewing the ball. This pattern results in four equal and equally spaced pattern motifs placed around the ball. If one works the rounds per se this is the result. If you interlock the rounds by weaving them, an entirely different presentation emerges. |

Wrap and prepare a standard C10 ball - 2 1/2 to three inches in diameter
(20 to 27cm) works best. Over three pentagons, locate the points
through 4, five through 8 and nine through 12 as shown. Stitch one round
following the points in order, returning to 1. Repeat until the motif closes
in on itself in it's center. Locate two other placings of the motif using
the diagram - the fourth will become evident after these three are worked.
After completion you may outline the pentagons that the motif falls in, or prior to beginning to stitch the motifs, work one or two accent lines just inside of each pentagon border. |
