Joan's Request  Cosmo Book 3, page 69, Temari on Left

Joan submitted a request for a TT Stitchalong to the list, and she with several other folks brainstormed out the two variations shown in the Cosmo 3 book on the listed page (there were a pair, each a different variation).

Debi A. was the compiler to pull the contributed info and thoughts into cohesive patterns.

The design uses a main design color (yellow in this example), a background color (dark red in this example) and a contrast color (orange).

1.  Mark a C8 in inconspicuous thread.
2.  Locate the large triangles that you would use for a four centers design.  Stitch one round on each, placing the stitches as close to the 6-way intersections as you can. (One blue triangle shown on diagram.)  Use design color thread.

3.  Now, locate the other 4 large triangles and stitch one round on each again, placing the stitches as close to the 6-way intersections as you can. (One red triangle shown on diagram.) Use design color thread.

4.  Stitch a square around each 8-way intersection, see diagram for stitch placement. (Green square on diagram, note halfway placement for corners.) Use background color thread.

5.  Stitch a triangle around each 6-way intersection, see diagram for stitch placement. (Yellow small triangle on diagram, note halfway placement for corners.) Use background color thread.

6.  Stitch the next rows on the large triangles (step 2 and 3) working inwards (shitagake stitching).
7.  Stitch the next rows on the squares and small triangles, working outwards.
8.  Repeat steps 6 and 7 until the large triangle stitches meet the beginning stitches of the small triangles.  Continue to use colors as established except do the next to last rows on the large triangles with the background color and do the last row on the small squares and triangles in the design color.
9.  Complete the design by repeating step 7 using the background color until the ball is completely covered.

10.  As an alternative to 7, you can wrap the final rows of background color.  Follow the path of the blue arrow on the photo.
