Snowflakes and Ivy
Inspiration: This pattern seems to reflect snowflakes and ivy and is ideal for the Christmas or winter season. It is a rather simple design and works up quickly. The pattern was inspired by one found in ISBN: 4837703941 Design threads: The temari is wrapped in black thread and the pattern is stitched in white, green and pink Goldfingering metallic thread. The addition of pink beads adds a festive touch. The Goldfingering metallic threads come in a wide range of colours and show well on temari patterns; however they can quickly overpower a complex design so I find them much better suited to simpler designs. Marking and preparation: This pattern uses a C10 division with a secondary offset marking. The offset marking threads are shown in green. Complete the offset markings for the entire temari as the first step.

Stitching the design 1.The stars are stitched first; each star is contained within the individual offset pentagon. Stitch the first line of the star to meet each corner of the pentagon. The next row of stitches is placed just outside the first row and toward the center. The next two rows continue to be placed outside of the previous rows and closer to the center of the star. Check the photo to see the stitch progression. |
| 1.The green leaves are stitched in and beyond
the triangles created by subdividing the pentagons and one triangle is
shown in the detail diagram. Although the numbers on the detail diagram
identify the last row of this element the first row is the innermost
one. The thread starts at the edge of the triangle, shown as #1 and
crosses to the far side, #2 then exits the triangle at about a 45
degree angle then goes back to #4 and follows through to #9 then back
to the starting point. The next row is stitched outside of the first
row leaving a small space between for the base colour to show through.
There are a total of 3 rows. 2.The center lines of the leaves are stitched in pink with the pink beads placed at the end of the red line in the centre of the open space between leaves. |
