Pink Stars

This pattern was inspired by a design on page 7 in ISBN 4837704913. To add interest Shelley uses a color gradation from white to dark pink. It is a simple pattern that offers a wide range of opportunities for color exploration.

The threads used here were embroidery floss, but to get the color gradations to appear smooth, the pattern was stitched using only 3 of the 6 threads. Co lours were: white, pale, medium and dark pink and red.

Marking and preparation: this ball is 25cm, wrapped in a medium blue and marked in a C10 using white thread that becomes part of the finished pattern.

Stitching the design:
To get the pattern results shown each color must be stitched sequentially over the entire ball. All the white must be completed before the next color is started. The pattern starts 1cm from the center along the diagonal line and the top of the star starts at the outside edge of each pentagon.

See the diagram for initial stitching pattern. The two stars have been shown with different colors for clarity.

The color sequence to achieve this gradation is as follows: Row 1-2    White thread; Rows 3-4    Pale pink thread; Rows 5-6    Medium pink thread; Rows 7-8    Dark pink thread; Rows 9-10    Red thread
