Prepare a mari for an 8 combination design.

This example uses  silver metallic for marking lines,
and 2 shades of green pearle to stitch the design.
1. Starting with dark green thread and working on the axis NW-SE and following the Green marker lines, stitch A-B-C-D-A, working around the ball as shown above.

2. Next, following the red line, stitch a-b-c-d-a, working around the ball as shown.

3  The third sequence is to stitch following the blue line 1-2-3-4-1, working around the ball as shown.

4. Now, following the same sequences as before and still using the dark green thread, repeat steps 1, 2 & 3 on the remaining axis, that is NE-SW. It may be useful to place two pins at each pole  where your threads  cross, to hold them in place.

5. Alternating from the NW-SE to the NE-SW axis, work 6 rounds in dark green.

6. Change to light green and continue in this fashion for a further 6 rounds, spreading the stitches out on each hexagon to create a ‘spider’s web’ effect, rather than a tight hexagon.

7. Take a small cross stitch at each pole where the threads cross, to hold them neatly in place.
