Nina’s Ball
Prepare a mari for a 10 combination
design.
For the ball shown, I used silver marking thread and burgundy, ecru and taupe pearl cotton for the design. |

1. Using the burgundy thread, work a triangle in
each of the triangle shapes as shown in red on the diagram. The
points should extend to halfway along the marker thread towards each
pole. 2. Then stitch one round in ecru around each triangle. 3. Using ecru thread and following the blue line, stitch all the way around the ball – this will take you past 20 points of the triangles, arriving back at the point where you started. (Note, you will stitch parallel with one side of a triangle, then go diagonally across to the point of the adjacent triangle, parallel with the side of this second triangle, then diagonally across to the point of the next triangle and so on around the ball.) 4. Move on to the purple thread and repeat step 3. |
| Repeat until you have worked around all sides of
each triangle and crossed over between all triangles. Repeat steps 4-6 using the taupe, followed by the burgundy, taupe and ecru again. 5 rounds altogether. Finally, using the burgundy thread again, tightly stitch 4 or 5 times around all points where the threads cross between the triangles. |
