String Blossom

(Inspired by “figuur_internetR” found on the www.cardembroidery.eu  website)

Materials:  4” mari, Royal wrap thread, fine Silver filament mark line, DMC variegated floss (4110 Pink, 4060 Green, 4090 Yellow, 4040 Aqua, 4220 Lavender), White Rayon floss

Measure and mark mari for 12 Simple Divisions.  Stitch mark lines with Silver filament.  Tack at poles.

Make Templates:

Cut out 6 circles about1” in diameter.  Pin them side by side and equally spaced out from NP.

Place a pin on the mark line at the highest point on each circle.  Outline the circles with side by side pins.  (Be sure all of the pin heads are the same diameter.  Placement of pins will be a measuring device for your stitches.)

Be sure you use exactly the same number of pins to outline each circle!  I used a Yellow pin for the highest point on the circle and a Red pin for the lowest point between each circle.

Cross Over Stitch

First stitch is taken from the large Gold pin across the NP to the Yellow pin. (Before I removed all of the original pins the Gold pin was a Yellow pin at the highest point on a circle.  The Yellow pin in the photo was originally a Red pin at the lowest point between two circles.)

I cut my floss into 12” lengths and separated it in half, and stitched with 3 strands of floss on my needle.  When that length ran out, I went on to the next color.

The photo shows individual cross over stitches around the flower shape until I reached the Yellow pin.  Beginning with the stitch at the Yellow pin there will be 2 stitches taken at each pin.

Continue working cross over stitches around the flower shape until there are 2 stitches at each pin.

Starburst

Cut a circle template about 1/2” in diameter.  Make a pencil mark at 4 points equally spaced around the circumference.

Place the circle template on the mark line running between flower petals so it is about level with the outer edge of the petals.

Line the pencil marks up with the mark line.  Place a pin at the remaining 2 pencil marks.  Place two pins between each of the 4 pencil marks.  Remove the paper template.

With Silver filament work a cross over pattern.  The mark line forms one line of the pattern. Remove pins.  Tack the center of the Starburst. Work a Starburst between each petal and outside each petal.  Total of 24.

Obi

Wrap an obi band with White Rayon floss.  Outline each edge with Silver braid.  Secure with diagonal herringbone stitches in Silver braid.
