Temari Southern Style - Interlocking Triangles
Copyright Martine Hinrichs 2002

This ball was done on a 2 inch C8 division using 8 different shades
of beige and brown and gold metallic thread.. It consists of 8
different interwoven triangles.

Begin with a C8 division. You do not need to use metallic thread for the marking thread as it
will be covered up by the design. Holding the ball with the north pole on top, identify the 4 triangles shown in red in the diagram below. these are where you will stitch your triangles and they will grow outward in the direction of the arrows in the diagram.

Using the diagram to the left as a guide, with gold thread, stitch one round of the first triangle. With your first color, stitch 3 rounds of the first triangle, 1 round of gold, 3 rounds of color, 1 round of gold, three rounds of color, 1 round of gold, 3  rounds of color and  finally one round of gold so you  now have 4 bands of color  separated by gold.

With your second color, begin the same process with the next triangle, interlocking where angles meet as shown in the diagram to the left. Adjust number of rounds so ball is covered. This is where nudge and fudge comes into play!

Continue for all 4 triangles, turn ball over so south pole is on top and continue with 4 more colors. This design is fun to play with. You can use solid bands of  color omitting the gold threads, you can use only 4 colors etc.
