This
ball is based on a C10 division. The picture above was done on a 3 inch
base . You will need 3 colors of thread, two shades of one color and a
contrasting color. Metallic thread should be used to mark the divisions.
Prep a 3 inch ball and mark in gold thread a C10 division. Starting at
any one of the pentagons, with the darker of the the color with two
shades, go around the pentagon four times, with a stitch at each
corner. (You are moving outward.) Repeat with the lighter shade. Repeat
with the contrasting color. Here you may need to add a few rows more
till you meet the marking thread-the old nudge and fudge!. Do the same
on every pentagon on the ball.

When all the pentagons are completed, look at the ball and identify the
triangle that occurs at each corner of the pentagon. There is one
triangle at every corner of each pentagon and it connects to the
corners of two more pentagons as well. Starting with the darker of the
color with two shades, and at the corner of a triangle, go OVER the
side of one pentagon, taking a stitch at the triangle corner, UNDER the
side of the next pentagon, taking a stitch at the next corner of the
triangle and Over the next pentagon side taking a stitch at the
corner
of the triangle where you started. Reappear for 3 more rows so you have
a total of 4 rows of the darker shade. Repeat with the lighter shade
for 4 rows and finally the beige for 4 (or more) rows finishing out the
triangle.
Do the same for each triangle making sure that if you went OVER the
side with the previous triangle that you now go UNDER it etc.
