One of the traditional ways to display Temari is to place each or some of your collection on its own zabuton - which is a little pillow. If you are familiar with meditation techniques, some people sit on small cushion that is also called a zabuton. Zabutons are very easy to make, and these instructions are from a discussion group member (Judy ?) in reply to a question about them to the group.
The zabuton. Nothing could be simpler. You need two 6 inch squares of fabric, and four 6 inch squares of thick batting. Sew 2 pieces of batting to each square of fabric, then right sides (fabric sides) together, sew the two units together on 3 sides.Turn right side out, hand stitch the 4th side together. In the centre of your cushion, sew through all layers and take several stitches in the same place to hold everything together. You can put a button at this spot or just leave the stitches plain.
There you have it - a zabuton. If you want to get really fancy, you can sew a small tassle on each corner. Put a temari on it, the centre indentation will keep it in place. Traditionally plain red is used, but navy blue (indigo) is also nice, especially if it has some white sashiko quilting on it.
(Webmaster's note - to adjust the zabuton to the size needed for your
Temari, use the diameter of your ball, plus one to two inches, and use
this number as the size of the squares you use).
