 18  Mentai: 6 Squares & 12 Hexagons (C8)
18F01

This marking creates 18 faces in resulting in 6 squares and 12 hexagons. The marking is worked in a manner similar to the Tamentai from a C10, in that the sides of the diamond formed from the C8 marking are divided into smaller segments.

Begin by marking an 8-Combination division, using regular marking thread.

Using regular marking thread, connect the pins in a cross-hatch manner as shown in photo to left.  Repeat in each of the 12 diamonds around the ball.

Cross-hatching the diamonds will result in the beginning of  the forming of the hexagons; note that they are not regular. There will be 4 surrounding each of the north and south poles, and four oriented around the equator.
