TemariKai Glossaries
The members of TT and the TK
readership have been together for some years now. Much information has
been collected that can be shared in collaborative documents to create
common terms and vernaculars, so that temari can
be discussed and understood by all crafters. Compiling and
standardizing terms helps in communicating skills and patterns. Thanks
to translation by several native Japanese contributors, traditional
Japanese terms have been learned and incorporated as of August 2005
along with the terms that seem to be uniquely "Western". Use of the
traditional Japanese terminology is encouraged, wherever possible, now
that access to them has been given to us.
As the basics of Temari have
been written in English and other languages, there has not been any
standardization of terminology. Each author has been
influenced by how and where he or she learned Temari, so each developed
his or her own verbiage, none of which is consistent, or even accurate
according to the proper Japanese. This
glossary offers collaborative input by members of Talk
Temari, TemariKai web
readers, and book cross-references to create a common vernacular
so that we can begin to "speak the same language." As of August 2005,
the Glossary has been corrected and expanded to reflect proper Japanese
names and terms. We believe that this
glossary will help Temari artists to effectively interact, and that use
of the terms will become more
widespread through TemariKai. The glossary also represents terminology
and techniques that you should become familiar with as you develop your
temari skills. A comprehensive Glossary of both Japanese and Western
terms is offered, as well as a concise listing of Japanese terms. Both
listings will be appended as more information becomes learned and
standardized
