About the Site
Dedication

Little did I know what the future would open up to be when I uploaded a few pages of photos and the little bits of info that I had been able to collect about Temari. It has certainly come round that there are many of us out there.... just not particularly near each other to be able to do much about it. Indeed, the most common statement of new people coming to the site or joining the discussion group is "I thought I was the only one out there!". Being disabled and homebound, the web is one of my only resources for research, and I dived in at the beginning of my temari search only to come up mostly empty. My goal has been to fill that hole in an easy going way.... this is in no way a professional publication (it comes out of the corner of my living room).

While Temari certainly is still not common or widely known about, it seems that this is indeed changing.... at least this site, and the people that come to it, join the discussion group and/or post their own sites help to contribute to Temari resources on the web (of which there are still very few, be it in English or Japanese) so that others can at least be exposed to these beautiful creations. Right now, early in 2003, Temari appears to be a needlecraft that is up and coming.

Within the site you will find information on the history and traditions of Temari, help on learning, general reference information on making them, patterns, photos of Temari, lots of resources, and many other opportunities to share in and enjoy the craft. Use the navigation bar to the left to enter the sections of the site, where you will find a contents listing for each. You may also search the site database for something specific.

TemariKai.com is a work in progress as well as a dream coming true. The site has grown into the resource it is now through the wonderful cooperation of many people that came together through the early stages of the site, and still do to share much knowledge, inspiration and experiences, be they members of the discussion group or web readers at large. In many cases it has only been my task to compile and organize it as you see it here, and I gratefully acknowledge with thanks all those that have and do contribute to its content.

TemariKai as the name was chosen with purpose - the search was for a traditional and meaningful name, one that not only indicated the site's purpose but also conveys and honors the fellowship of the Temari crafters gathering through it. "Kai" is the Japanese world meaning "world", or "society" or "gathering", so the site attempts to offer the world of Temari as well as serve as a meeting point for a worldwide gathering of Temari enthusiasts that join and share through its pages.

TemariKai hosts TemariKaiNews List for news about site updates as well as Temari in general as information is gathered.... as well as TalkTemari, the online email discussion group for Temari crafters. Through these opportunities as well as participation projects, Crafter Showcases and other information and project sharing the goal is to bring Temari enthusiasts around the world together with opportunities to engage with one another as much as the internet will allow.
